Scholarship Opportunities and Announcements

The 2010-11 scholarship committee had a fantastic year.  Our goal was to attract enough qualified applicants to give out an unprecedented $11,750!  We more than met that goal with 53 applications received!  The decision was difficult as there was a tremendous number of worthy candidates.

Our scholarship and award program includes the Young Women in Public Affairs Award, the Associate in Applied Science Scholarship, two Zonta Club Memorial Scholarships, four Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area Scholarships and the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship.

ZONTA SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTIONS & DEADLINES 2012

YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS – MARCH 1, 2012 Click link for application
$750 club award for high school women ages 16-19.  Women who are pre-university or pre-college students living or studying in a Zonta district/region at the time of application and demonstrate evidence of: active commitment to volunteerism, experience in local or student government, volunteer leadership achievements, knowledge of ZI and its programs, advocating in ZI’s mission of advancing the status of women worldwide. Club winner will be entered into District competition.  District winner receives an additional $1,000 and is forwarded to Zonta International competition for one of five $3,000 awards.

Application for Zonta Club Scholarships Listed Below:

ZONTA CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS – APRIL 1, 2012
Four $1,500 scholarships for women who have successfully completed at least one year of college by the end of Spring term 2012, and have a permanent/family address in Coos County.   Preference for one of these scholarships will be given to a student attending Southwestern Oregon Community College.

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – APRIL 1, 2012
Two $1,000 scholarships for a non-traditional student – someone who has had her education interrupted for any reason and is now returning to school.  Recipient must have a permanent/family address in Coos County.

ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE – APRIL 1, 2012
$1,500 scholarship for a female student who is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree at Southwestern Oregon Community College.  Student will have completed at least one year of college by the end of Spring term 2012, and have a permanent/family address in Coos County.

JANE KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP – APRIL 1, 2012

$1,500 club scholarship for a student entering her junior or senior year of college as a business major.  Recipient of local scholarship will be automatically entered into Zonta International competition.

Applications for the Young Women in Public Affairs Award will be available at all county high schools and public libraries by the end November 2011.  All others will be available at all Coos County public libraries, Southwestern Oregon Community College Student Support Services Office and Financial Aid Office, the Women’s Safety and Resource Center and www.zontacoosbay.org by the end November 2011.

Completed applications must be postmarked by the appropriate deadline and mailed to Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area, Attn: Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 245 North Bend, OR 97459

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Zontians are executives and professionals decision-making positions willing to contribute to improving the legal, political, educational, professional, economic and health status of women. Each club includes members from a variety of occupations and professions. To ensure professional diversity within each club, Zonta membership is by invitation.
